Biodiversity Conservation

Conservation Biology and Environmental Management are the key focus areas of this section of the museum.

Malacology

The department has grown since the origins of the East London Museum  to house the third largest collection in South Africa. We have a small, but growing, collection of types.

Ornithology

The Ornithology Department at East London Museum maintains a collection of approximately 18 000 study skin specimens. These include a large proportion of the species found within southern Africa, and over 90% of those occurring within the Eastern Cape region.
